WFA Summer Picnic 2019

Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 3rd for the Wisconsin Falconers Summer Picnic! Rain or shine! It will be held at Mike Barlow’s home by Stevens Point WI from 12pm – 3pm. Birds and good dogs welcome. Free admission! The WFA will be providing grilled hamburgers and hotdogs as well as chips, soda, bottled water, paper plates and plastic utensils. Bringing a dish to pass (could be a desert) and your favorite beverage is very much welcomed and appreciated. Your own lawn chairs are welcome. Bring your kids and grandkids. We hope to see you there!

Just to give you a heads up: We are going to go back to Black River Falls for the annual Winter Meet. It has the Best Western Hotel and the conference room that works really well for our needs and will be held on February 1st – 2nd and the board will hold our winter meeting at that time. You will receive a mailing or email with detailed time prior to the meet. Our guest speaker is Lauren McGough and she will have a new book coming out around that time.

Eric Retering will do a short demonstration on rigging a drone with a parachute and bait, and share a summary of how to condition and train longwings for successful game-hawking

Directions to Mike Barlow’s place:

· From I-39, take exit 159 for WI-66 toward Stevens Point/Rosholt
· Turn west onto Stanley Street (left if coming from the south, right if coming from the north)
· Take the 1st right onto Northpoint Drive
· Take the 1st right onto Wilshire Drive
· Approximately ½ mile from the top of the I-39 overpass, turn left onto a dirt driveway (you will see 6 mailboxes on the left just before the driveway and we’ll have a sign to help you spot it).
· Follow the dirt driveway approximately ½ mile, going right at the fork in the road.
· Continue on driveway until you come to Mike’s house at the end.

Winter Meet 2019 in Sun Praire, WI

Our winter meet is going to be held on February 2nd & 3rd, 2019. It is going to be held in Sun Prairie, WI which is a suburb of Madison, WI. Our guest speaker is Wisconsin’s own Neil Reddig. Best of luck with any new birds this fall, and getting old ones back up and running.  We look forward to seeing you at the meet!

Birds and good dogs welcome.  Free admission! The WFA will be providing grilled hamburgers and hotdogs as well as chips, soda, bottled water, paper plates and plastic utensils. Bringing a dish to pass (could be a desert) and your favorite beverage is very much welcomed and appreciated but not required. Your own lawn chairs are welcome. Bring your kids and grandkids. We hope to see you there!

We are working on a location for this year’s annual Winter Meet.  It looks like we might be moving it back to the Sun Prairie area will be held on February 2nd -3rd or 9th – 10th and the board will hold our winter meeting at that time.  You will receive a mailing or email with detailed time prior to the meet.  

At the Summer picnic: Dave Noble will do a demo on trapping methods using a temporary blind setup with a lure pole and bownet.  I’ll do a demo making a leash and jesses with parachute cord.
